Introductory information
If you are new to the Library, please ask at the Service Desk and staff will be happy to provide you with a personal introduction to the Library and answer any questions you may have about its operation.
Alternatively, at the beginning of the academic year, the Library runs timetabled introductory sessions intended for new readers, comprising a guided tour of the building, a demonstration of how to search the catalogue and other electronic resources, and an opportunity to ask questions.
For the 2011/12 academic year the scheduled sessions will be held at:
- 1.15pm on Thursday 6th October
- 1.15pm on Friday 7th October
- 1.15pm on Monday 10th October
- 1.15pm on Tuesday 11th October
If these times are not convenient for you, please feel free to email the Library on moore-library@lib.cam.ac.uk if you would like to arrange such a session for yourself and your friends/colleagues at an alternative time.
To supplement these provisions, this page is designed to provide links to online versions of Library induction material:
- The History page provides a brief description of the Library, information about its design, and some facts and figures.
- The Library is open to all members of the University and others on application. Details of opening hours and admissions policies can be found by following the highlighted links.
- The Reader Services page includes information about the circulation, reference, and document delivery services provided by the Library.
- Included on the Collections page is information about the subject coverage and location of the book and journal collections, as well as a description of the electronic and computing resources available.
When visiting the Library for the first time, you might like to follow the self-guided tour.
A printed leaflet containing all the above information, An Introduction To & Self Guided Tour Of The Betty And Gordon Moore Library, is available from the Library.
The Library website also provides answers to some frequently asked questions (FAQs).
