Online resources for University of Cambridge staff and students
See everything available via the general electronic resources page, eresources@cambridge
E-journals can be accessed via the ejournals@cambridge portal
- where one thing you can do is to browse through the statistics titles:
Databases of special interest include:
- MathSciNet - the American Mathematical Society database of reviews of mathematics books and articles
- Zentralblatt MATH - a similar product published by the European Mathematical Society
- Scopus and Web of Knowledge are more general databases covering all subject areas (WoK needs Raven password)
science@cambridge is a portal that tries to bring lots of electronic resources together in one place for convenience. Both resources paid for by the Library, and good free resources from Cambridge and beyond are included.
General online resources
Lots of Statistical societies have good and informative websites, e.g. the Royal Statistical Society, the American Statistical Association, and the Institute of Mathematical Statistics, while SIAM (the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics) might also be of interest
The Office for National Statistics provides large numbers of datasets of official UK statistics for free download
Lists of Statistics departments in the UK and the world might be useful if you are thinking of applying for PhD places
- or you might just find a link back to the Cambridge Statistical Laboratory convenient
Preprints of articles from journals to which Cambridge doesn't subscribe can often be found on arXiv (in the mathematics or statistics sections) and MPRESS
Passwords
Many electronic resources are freely available, and many others work by IP address recognition from any University of Cambridge networked machine. Some still need a username and password for access (especially if you'd like to use them from a non-Cambridge machine). The eresources@cambridge page tells you the details for each database or journal, as well as the date range available to you.
The generic password that will get you into most resources is called Raven, and can be collected online provided you have a hermes email account.
