Digital Resources Area
The Central Science Library is pleased to introduce a new digital resources area. This area provides a dedicated room in which readers can consult the wide range of electronic resources to which the Library subscribes.
The library has now extended its DRA service to the 1st floor area bringing the total number of available PCs to 11. See a member of staff for details.
The area is part of the DRA service provided by the University Library and as such accounts created at the UL will also work here.
The service is managed by CSL library staff and the Electronic Services and Systems department of the Main University Library. Readers wishing to make use of the facility should first enquire at the 1st Floor Enquiry Desk.
Readers wishing to use the service can also apply online. The application will normally be processed within 2 hours during normal working hours. Requests submitted out of hours will be dealt with when the library re-opens.
Use of University Library IT facilities is governed by the Rules made by the IT Syndicate of the University and JANET Acceptable Use Policy
Services
Our electronic information services include:
- Online databases
- Electronic journals
- Library catalogues
- Web gateways
- Digital images
More detailed information can be found at the electronic resources web page.
The PCs also provide access to Microsoft Office 2003 (Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint and Access), and make networked printing facilities available to library readers. Users are allocated 20 MB of networked disk space on which to store their work within the Library. Do not save anything to the Desktop, My Documents or any other location on the PC's hard disk, as they are periodically deleted. You are responsible for backing up your own data (e.g. to a 3.5 floppy disc or memory stick).
Cambridge users with PWF accounts will be able to access their PWF filespace from within the DRA web gateway.
Computers in the Digital Resources Area will be directed to a printer at the 1st Floor Enquiry Desk. Payment for printing is made at the point of collection from the front desk and we would ask users of the service to collect their printing promptly. The price of printing will be at 10 pence per A4 sheet.
Users of the service, whose accounts were created at UL and have printing credit there, should be aware that this credit will not work at the CSL and they will have to pay cash for all printing done here.
When printing it is important NOT to log off from your DRA account until the print job has been completed.
If you lose or forget your password it will need to be reset. This can only be done by staff at the University Library and isn't done in house at the CSL. You will need to fill in another IT facilities application form and tick the box for LOST PASSWORDS. The form will be submitted to the UL and your new password will be sent to you within 2 working days (Monday - Friday).
If you wish to leave any feedback or comments about the service, please use this form
