In June 2015, the Central Science Library will permanently close as a consequence of major redevelopment of the New Museums Site.
Library services for science subjects will continue and will be managed from the Betty and Gordon Moore Library, which is based on the Centre for Mathematical Sciences site in Wilberforce Road.
The book collections (with the exception of reading list material) have already been transferred to the Moore Library. Reading list material remains at the CSL until the end of term, at which point it will be transferred to the Moore Library (please note that reading list material will be non-borrowable until it has been transferred to the Moore Library). Print Legal Deposit journal holdings continuing from 2015 will also be transferred to the Moore Library.
Non-book stock (*includes all journal stock up to the end of 2014 and the University's Print Standards collection*) will, on the closure of the library, be re-located to a temporary offsite store for a period of 3 years, pending transfer to a permanent off-site storage facility. We regret that it will not be possible to retrieve material from temporary storage.
To assist our readers, arrangements are being put in place for an enhanced inter-library loan service. Please contact a member of library staff if you have any queries.
Existing CSL loans
Book renewals, on existing loans, are possible but readers should be aware that once renewed the books should be returned to the Moore Library and not the CSL. All renewals will have to be undertaken by library staff at the CSL and readers will be unable to renew through MyLibrary account for existing CSL loans. We will create a new patron record at the Moore as part of the renewal process. Currently, readers will also have to do a paper registration with the Moore when they first visit.
We will also be waiving all fines on outstanding loans at this time of upheaval.
