Readers' Newsletters

Each term since October 1995, the UL News and its predecessor The Cambridge University Library Readers’ Newsletter have provided news and pictures of the Library’s activities, achievements and plans to the users and staff of Cambridge libraries and to a wide range of interested parties beyond Cambridge. It has always actively embraced change and technological developments, appearing in an electronic version on the Library’s website since 1996.

News stories are now regularly mounted on the website and many aspects of the Library’s activities are also covered by blogs which enable interactive communication, while instant updates are also provided by staff via communication tools such as Twitter, Facebook and RSS feeds. Such methods are clearly the most cost-effective and efficient means of keeping our users and friends up to date.

With regret, but with a due sense of achievement over the years when a printed newsletter was the most appropriate medium, I wish to inform you that issue 2 (April 2010) of the UL News was the last to be printed.

I would like to take the opportunity to express the Library’s sincere thanks to Ray Scrivens who served as Editor from 1995 to 2000, and Stephen Hills who has served as Editor for the past ten years. We have been extremely fortunate to have benefited from their enthusiasm and editorial skills and without doubt the publication would not have been the success that it was without their sterling work throughout the years.
