An introduction to the Library
The Central Science Library holds Cambridge University Library's collections in biological, chemical, earth and environmental sciences. It is one of two branch Science Libraries within Cambridge University Library.
The Betty and Gordon Moore Library holds the University Library's working collections in pure and applied mathematics, physics, astronomy, computer science, materials science, and engineering.
Jointly these libraries provide major working collections in support of the teaching and research of the University in science and technology. For information explaining the subject distribution for science within the University Library and its dependent libraries please use this detailed guide and the Science Libraries webpages.
The Medical Library holds the University Library's collections in clinical medicine, nursing, midwifery and psychiatry.
The CSL occupies the 1st and 2nd floor of the Arts School building with various closed access storage areas. The main enquiry point is on the 1st floor and as such this floor is designated a non quiet area. The 2nd floor is the designated 'quiet' area of the library.
In addition to providing access to books and journals the CSL provides access to a wide range of electronic resources via PC's that are located on each floor and in a dedicated Digital Resources Area located in the 2nd Floor Main Reading Room. There is also wireless access to the internet, via the University Lapwing service, available on the 2nd floor.
The Library is also currently providing, on a trial basis, a document scanning service for current members of the University. Please see here for further details.
