Ms Lucy Cheng

Ms Lucy Cheng was appointed conservator to the Genizah Research unit in October 2008, working specifically on the Jacques Mosseri Genizah Collection. Her duties include stablising the collection by cleaning, flattening, and applying conservation treatments such as paper repairs to more than 7000 paper and parchment fragments. The fragments are secured into individual enclosures before digitisation and eventually bound into volumes for safe and easy referencing. Her current research involves identifying appropriate consolidant and method of application in treating flaking carbon ink.

Ms Lucy Cheng received a BA in Art History and a MA in Library and Information Science from the University of Hawaii, USA, before completing her MA in Conservation of Books and Library Materials at West Dean College, West Sussex (accredited by University of Sussex).

Her research interests include textile bindings and medieval girdle books.
