Dr Melonie Schmierer-Lee
Dr Schmierer-Lee is a Research Associate at the Unit, preparing descriptions of Hebrew and Aramaic Genizah manuscripts.
After a first class BA degree in Hebrew and Semitic Languages from University College London in 2006, she gained an MPhil with distinction at the University of Cambridge in 2007, with a dissertation on Aramaic phonology. Her PhD, under the supervision of Prof. Geoffrey Khan, is a diachronic study of Eastern Aramaic.
Melonie's research interests include the historical development of Aramaic from its earliest attestations in inscriptions up to the modern period, and the sociolinguistics of Christian and Jewish Neo-Aramaic.
