Giving to Cambridge University Library

Today, as in 1416, the Library relies on its supporters. Books bequeathed by Hunden and Loring in 1416 formed the very foundation of the Library we know today, and throughout the past 600 years the Library has continued to receive philanthropic support and generosity. It is donors like you that help the Library continue to grow its current collection which is now home to over 8 million books, journals and items.

There are a number of ways you can give to the Library. The most efficient way is by making a regular donation through the Friends. To say thank you, you will receive a number of membership benefits.

If you prefer to make a one-off payment you can do this online or by sending us a cheque or a completed payment form. More details on how you can pay are provided in the links below.

Or you can provide dedicated support to the Taylor-Schechter Genizah Research Unit by giving a one-off donation or joining the Friends of the Genizah.

A heartfelt thank you for all the support you give to the Library. We are very grateful and never take for granted the kind and generous Friends we have.

The impact of Giving to the Library

With the support of the Library's Friends and Benefactors the Codex Zacynthius was purchased in 2014 following a successful £1.1m fundraising campaign. The Codex now takes its rightful place among the Library's world-renowned faith collections.

Dating from the 6th or 7th century, Codex Zacynthius offers scholars a key to understanding the way in which the text of St Luke's Gospel was transmitted as Christianity spread.

The purchase gives us the opportunity to digitise the manuscript and share it on a global scale. The Codex Zacynthius features in the Library's Lines of Thought virtual exhibition. With your support the Library can continue to build its collections and share them with the world.
