CHAPTER 1 PROLOGUE
Chapter 1 acts as the Prologue and gives the background to the events that led up to the decision to move the Royal Observatory from Greenwich. It also describes briefly the author's education and his appointment to a post in H. M. Nautical Almanac Office, which had moved from its wartime base in Bath to the Castle. This short chapter is divided into several sections.
