Overture to a masque

Overture to a masque was originally intended to be premiered in the Promenade Concert season of 1940, the first performance was cancelled when the Proms season was cut short due to air-raids. It was finally premiered 65 years later in St. Giles' Church, Northampton on the 12th November 2005.

Archive has rough sketches of the unpublished work. Also includes a brief sketch for an unidentified work for flute, oboe and bassoon. Principally autograph in pencil, part autograph in ink with amendments in coloured pencil.
Also includes lyrics of a Christmas poem, in Alwyn's hand and presumably written by him at the top of the front cover.
