The hare Music for a radio feature, commissioned 1947, written by Louis MacNeice. MacNeice had already written two "March Hare" features, which were broadcast in 1945 and 1946 - "The March Hare" and "Salute to all fools." This was, presumably, to be the third part of the saga. According to the contracts, The Hare was to be broadcast on the Third Programme. Due to industrial troubles at the BBC the Third Programme was off air between 11-27 February 1947. A recording to disc of The Hare was probably made for broadcast in the future, although originally the intention would have been to broadcast it live; however, because there were already several MacNeice plays in the offing for later in the year, and because the station was off the air for so long, The Hare was scrapped and never broadcast. For 2 horns and string orchestra.
