New period introduced for Russian literature

The Library's classification system is period-specific only for Russian among the Slavonic literatures. Until December 2011, the latest period ran from 1901. This period has now been given the closing date of 1991, with a new open period starting at 1992. The periods are now:

  • early to 1800 (except for drama, which starts with the period of early to 1900)
  • 1801-1900
  • 1901-1991
  • 1992-

Please be aware that we are not going to undertake retrospective reclassification. This means that all books by or about Russian writers working predominantly in the post-Soviet period which were catalogued and placed on the open shelves before the 13th of December will remain in the 1901-1991 classes.
