Stalin Digital Archive and 'Iskusstvo kino' backfiles trials in April 2013

Please note that the text below refers both to the trials (which run until 29 April 2013) and to the need for feedback. The deadline for feedback has passed, so please ignore those sections.

Both trials run until 29 April 2013 but comments are sought urgently by Monday 15 April 2013. Please e-mail your comments to slavonic@lib.cam.ac.uk.

Stalin Digital Archive

A trial of the digital archive of the Stalin Digital Archive has been provided by EastView. Yale University Press and the Russian State Archive of Social and Political History have come together to produce, via EastView, a staggering group of recently declassified Russian archival material relating to Stalin and also online access to Yale UP's Annals of Communism series. The front page of the archive says "The Stalin Digital Archive contains a selection of documents from Fond 558, which covers Stalin's personal biography, his work in government, and his conduct of foreign affairs. The trial version of the Stalin Digital Archive contains only 3% of the total archive that the Yale University Press will publish to the SDA platform." Please note that you will need to create your own SDA account to see some material, within the University's temporary access. All with an interest in Soviet politics and history are strongly urged to capitalise on this trial. Feedback is sought by Monday 15 April 2013 (although the trial itself lasts until 29 April 2013). Please e-mail your comments and feedback to eresources@lib.cam.ac.uk.

'Iskusstvo kino' backfile

A trial of the digital archive of the Soviet journal 'Iskusstvo kino' (The art of cinema) has been provided by EastView. 'Iskusstvo kino' was the most important Soviet journal on film and continues to be an important source on film to this day. From its very first issue, in January 1931, the whole run up to 2011 is available as readable pdf through the digital archive. It is text-searchable in Cyrillic and transliteration. All interested in Soviet and Russian film and culture are strongly recommended to make the most of the trial and to get in touch with feedback by Monday 15 April 2013 (although the trial itself lasts until 29 April 2013). Please e-mail your comments and feedback to eresources@lib.cam.ac.uk.
