Items for sale in the Map Room

The Department has a small collection of locally produced maps that are available to buy in the Map Room.

Please note that the maps are only available for sale during normal opening hours and to access the Map Room you will need a valid Readers ticket for the University Library.

If you do not have a valid Readers ticket, would like copies of the maps posted to you or would like to buy copies of the maps in bulk please contact the relevant publisher directly

Cambridgeshire Records Society Publications

  • Baker‘s Map of the University and Town of Cambridge, 1830
  • Richard Baker‘s New Map of the University and Town of Cambridge, published in 1830, is an exact and very detailed snapshot of the topography of the city and its surroundings as they were in that year; it extends from Chesterton to Grantchester. Drawn on a large scale, about nine inches to a mile, it is one of the most accurate and beautiful examples of Victorian cartography.

  • Cambridge 1574-1904
  • A portfolio of twelve maps illustrating the changing plan of Cambridge from the sixteenth to the twentieth century, accompanied by an introductory booklet. Although primarily selected to show the growth of the city, the maps also illustrate how the techniques and styles of mapping changed during this period.

  • Cambridge in 1885 & 1886
  • This portfolio of 60 maps shows late 19th century Cambridge in great detail including house shapes, gardens with paths, trees and planting. Streets include lamp posts and drain covers. Reproduced from the Ordnance Survey plan of urban Cambridge and originally published at a scale of 1:500, this slightly reduced edition is at approximately 1:1260 (1 inch to 105 feet) and is accompanied by an introductory booklet.

  • Ancient county and parish boundaries of Cambridgeshire and Huntingdonshire
  • Based on the Archives Service map of 1979 this map shows the county and parish boundaries at an approximate scale of 1:250,000 (4 miles to 1 inch)
