Self-Service Photography


Readers may use their own cameras to take still photographs of material in the Maps, Manuscripts and Rare Books Reading Rooms.

From 4 October 2011, self-service photography of material in the open stacks and of
authorized material in the Anderson Room, East Asian Reading Room, Commonwealth Room, Reading Room and
West Room will also be permitted on a trial basis.

If you wish to take your own photographs within the Map Room please speak to staff and read the information sheets on self-service photography and copyright provided.

Please note that cameras and camera phones must be hand-held, and must be set to SILENT!

SLRs, tripods and ‘mini-pods’ and flash photography are not permitted.

Photographs may be taken for non-commercial research or
private study only.

General photography (e.g. of people, locations, reading rooms) is not permitted.
