Map Department Refurbishment - Pictures

The Map Department has REOPENED in the newly refurbished Map Room

All of these pictures were taken before the books, PCs etc were moved in.

Map Room 1 - Computer table, map trays and work benches. All of the high work benches have map trays underneath and overhanging tops so that it is possible to sit comfortably at them on stools. Leaflet holders can be seen on the outside wall to the left

Map Room 2 - Enquiry Desk and Entrance Barrier. The Entrance Barrier is controlled by a member of staff on entry and exit

Map Room 3 - View from the Enquiry Desk towards the light table, computer table and catalogue and index drawers. The latter are part of the original 1930's furnishings but have been electrostatically spayed white

Map Room 4 - Work benches and map trays. Apart from a few reference books the collection is closed access and all of the map trays have locks

Map Room 5 - Looking towards the mobile map tray units

Map Room 6 - Staff Office. The white metal pillars help support the building so could not be moved!
