BUFVC
The University Library administers the university’s membership of BUFVC (British University Film and Video Council).
The BUFVC records and retains more than 65,000 hours of UK broadcast television and radio each year. Copies of these programmes can be ordered online and supplied to staff through the university’s membership. There is a limit of 50 on the number of requests per year supplied on DVD.
The Off-Air Recording Back-Up Service currently records BBC1, BBC2, BBC3, BBC4, ITV1, Channel 4, Five, BBC Radio 4 (since September 2008) and BBC Radio 7 (since September 2009).
Staff may order programmes via the Television and Radio Index for Learning and Teaching (TRILT). Simply locate and select the desired programme in TRILT to generate a programme request. The university’s BUFVC member representative (Patricia Killiard) will then authorise it for processing. TRILT carries information on nearly all broadcasts in the UK since September 2001 and selective data back to 1995.
The BUFVC hosts further databases for locating sources of moving image material:
The Moving Image Gateway includes over 1,000 websites relating to moving image and sound materials. These have been subdivided into over 40 subject areas.
