There are currently 164 ebooks  from 1989 to present available as an add-on (with an additional cost) to the SPIE Digital Library. The ebooks include titles from the SPIE Press series in optics and photonics:

• Tutorial Texts cover fundamental and emerging topics at introductory and intermediate levels.
• Field Guides present key information that students and practicing engineers and scientists need in a concise format

A user guide with information about the SPIE Digital Library and tips on how to search the site is available. It also shows how to set-up RSS feeds and utilize bibliographic, bookmarking, and research tools.

This trial is available both on and off campus. Off campus access is available via Raven logins, but for off campus access, users should use the links above, the Off campus access bookmarklet or the ejournals@cambridge A-Z listing for journals. Shibboleth access (Institutional login) is being set up but is not yet available.

Searching and browsing the collections is also enhanced with the new Discovery interface, including :-

- ability to select how many results are displayed after a search

The National Archives will be keeping the catalogue and DocumentsOnline running separately alongside the new Discovery interface.  The catalogue will cease to be offered separately after the end of June 2012 as its functionality will be superseded by Discovery.  DocumentsOnline will also be switched-off in due course.

The Bookshelf feature displays those titles available to read and search in full-text, and users can print from those texts. Users can also register individually on the platform to create a saved space in which notes, bookmarks and highlights can be added.

These textbooks are available via subscription until the end of June 2013 in the first instance, the usage and ongoing cost will be reviewed by the ebooks@cambridge Advisory Group at this time.

To access the ebooks already purchased by the Judge Business School users will need to use their Raven logins on dawsonera’s Reader Portal, whether they are on- or off-campus. A link to the Reader Portal can be found on the ebooks@cambridge collections web page, and access guidance is available from the Tips & Instructions page.

• Using dawsonera ebooks

Clicking on the eBook Catalogue tab will list all of the ebooks purchased by the University of Cambridge, these can be read online and/or added to favourites under your account. There are also Quick and Advanced Search options, and the choice to include unpurchased content when searching. Our purchased ebooks are shown in green, while unpurchased content is indicated with purple. Users can print and/or copy & paste up to 5% of any of our ebooks and notes can be added to any page of our ebooks. The Reader Portal recognises users each time they login and any saved notes will automatically appear.

• 5 minute preview

Users can search for unowned content on dawsonera and there is an option to have a free 5 minute preview of these titles. Users can view up to a limit of 50 pages per ebook in previewing mode; copying and printing is not permitted. There is an option to suggest titles for purchase. The ebooks@cambridge team will be notified of any suggestions and will follow these up with the relevant Faculty and Department librarians.

• Catalogue records

Catalogue records for those ebooks which are purchased by the University of Cambridge will be searchable in LibrarySearch as soon as possible.

UKPressOnline includes the Daily Mirror 1903-present and Daily Express 1900-present. The Sunday Express is currently mainly 2000-present (UKPressOnline is in the process of adding 1918-2000).  It comprises The Watchman 1835-1885 (the precursor to the Methodist Recorder) and archives now being added – Church Times, currently 1863-89, 1939-45 and 2000-present; and Morning Star, currently 2007-present.

UKPressOnline is continually adding new content. It currently also includes the collection WWII – the Rise of Hitler to the Fall of Churchill (1933-45) which includes relevant Mirror/Express editions, plus the British Union of Fascists (Mosley) Press (The Blackshirt, Action, Fascist Week) and Yorkshire Post.  The Daily Worker and Kent Messenger are expected to be added later.

The BTL database provides electronic access to all editions of Latin texts published in the Bibliotheca Teubneriana, ranging from antiquity and late antiquity to medieval and neo-Latin texts. A total of approximately 13 million word forms are thus accessible electronically.

Access to the BTL complements the University Library’s existing subscription to the Thesaurus Linguae Latinae.   Both resources are currently on the same platform and only available on campus.  TLL and BTL will be migrating to a new platform in the near future at which point it is expected that it will be possible to make the databases available off campus.
