The National Archives at Kew has released a new interface called Discovery that enables users to access both its catalogue and the DocumentsOnline service simultaneously. Integrating the catalogue – containing c. 11 million descriptions of records from central government, courts of law and other UK national bodies – with DocumentsOnline, the Archives’ digitized document delivery service, results in a much improved experience for the user. It is now possible to search the Archives’ collections and download digital copies of records, if available, all in one place.

Searching and browsing the collections is also enhanced with the new Discovery interface, including :-

- ability to select how many results are displayed after a search

- display of results in order of relevance to a search

- tagging of records to expand on catalogue descriptions

- filtering of search results by subject, date range and collection

For a full overview of the changes and improvements to the interface see the FAQs on Discovery at :-

http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/about/discovery-faqs.htm

The National Archives will be keeping the catalogue and DocumentsOnline running separately alongside the new Discovery interface. The catalogue will cease to be offered separately after the end of June 2012 as its functionality will be superseded by Discovery. DocumentsOnline will also be switched-off in due course.

A link to the Discovery interface has been added to the eresources@cambridge A-Z gateway at:-

http://www.lib.cam.ac.uk/eresources/fulllist.php?search_term=D

The link on the eresources@cambridge A-Z gateway is for on and off campus users:-

http://ezproxy.lib.cam.ac.uk:2048/login?url=http://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/SearchUI

The link for on campus users only is:-

http://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/SearchUI

The link to DocumentsOnline (cross-referred in the eresources@cambridge A-Z to National Archives DocumentsOnline) will be maintained alongside the link to the Discovery interface until DocumentsOnline is no longer supported as a separate service by the National Archives.

ebooks@cambridge are pleased to announce that they have agreed a contract with library ebook suppliers dawsonera, this will offer us the opportunity to purchase individual ebooks on the dawsonera platform.

We hope that this will enable us to increase the range and scope of ebook titles which we can obtain to support teaching and learning across all subject areas.

ebooks from dawsonera

To access the ebooks already purchased by the Judge Business School users will need to use their Raven logins on dawsonera’s Reader Portal, whether they are on- or off-campus. A link to the Reader Portal can be found on the ebooks@cambridge collections web page, and access guidance is available from the Tips & Instructions page.

Using dawsonera ebooks

Clicking on the eBook Catalogue tab will list all of the ebooks purchased by the University of Cambridge, these can be read online and/or added to favourites under your account. There are also Quick and Advanced Search options, and the choice to include unpurchased content when searching. Our purchased ebooks are shown in green, while unpurchased content is indicated with purple. Users can print and/or copy & paste up to 5% of any of our ebooks and notes can be added to any page of our ebooks. The Reader Portal recognises users each time they login and any saved notes will automatically appear.

5 minute preview

Users can search for unowned content on dawsonera and there is an option to have a free 5 minute preview of these titles. Users can view up to a limit of 50 pages per ebook in previewing mode; copying and printing is not permitted. There is an option to suggest titles for purchase. The ebooks@cambridge team will be notified of any suggestions and will follow these up with the relevant Faculty and Department librarians.

Catalogue records

Catalogue records for those ebooks which are purchased by the University of Cambridge will be searchable in LibrarySearch as soon as possible.

Online help is available – Please send any feedback or queries on the dawsonera platform to the ebooks@cambridge team at ebooks@lib.cam.ac.uk.

The University Library is pleased to announce that the Bibliotheca Teubneriana Latina database is now available online thanks to the generous support of the Classical Faculty and Library.

The BTL database provides electronic access to all editions of Latin texts published in the Bibliotheca Teubneriana, ranging from antiquity and late antiquity to medieval and neo-Latin texts. A total of approximately 13 million word forms are thus accessible electronically.

Access to the BTL complements the University Library’s existing subscription to the Thesaurus Linguae Latinae. Both resources are currently on the same platform and only available on campus. TLL and BTL will be migrating to a new platform in the near future at which point it is expected that it will be possible to make the databases available off campus.

The BTL is available via the Classics eresources@cambridge list at
