Cambridge University Library

A selection of World War 1 materials from Cambridge University Library (UL) is now on display at Cambridge Central Library. The display will take place on the first floor of the Central Library from 16 March - 9 April.

Visitors to the Central Library will have an opportunity to view a selection of books and magazines that offer a glimpse of life during the War. These items sit alongside a display from the Central Library’s Cambridgeshire Collection that highlights the UL’s historical move in the 1930s from the Old Schools to our current West Road site.

Lynda Martin, Operations and Development Manager of Libraries and Archives at Cambridge Central Library, says: "We are delighted with this opportunity to bring together the premier academic and public libraries in the City to celebrate the 600 years of the University Library and to showcase unique material from the University Library collections in the Central Library alongside our own Cambridgeshire Collection resources. The display case funded for this project by the Heritage Lottery Fund will be a permanent feature in the Central Library to host a series of displays to promote the exceptional resources from both libraries."

In addition to the display, this exciting partnership offers people across Cambridgeshire an opportunity to take part in an exciting series of talks from UL staff at EngAGE events and book-making workshops which are being generously supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund. Information about all these events are available on our What’s On events page.
