The University of Cambridge Newton Universal Catalogue provides access to the merged Newton catalogues of the University Library, its dependent libraries and most faculty, departmental, and college libraries of the university and its affiliated institutions.

The Newton Universal Catalogue can be searched in exactly the same way as other Newton catalogues. For each book or journal found the catalogue will list the holding library or libraries.

The current version of the Universal Catalogue is a pilot. It contains entries for books and journals added to the catalogues of departmental, faculty and college libraries, and for the University Library and is being updated each evening with new entries added during the day. Information about the status of a particular book or journal, e.g. whether it is on loan or has been sent for binding, is updated in real time.

Requests for recalls and renewals where permitted by the library can be made in the same way as in the individual catalogues. Requests for books held in the University Library closed stacks can also be made from the Universal Catalogue.
