The first in this series of Sandars Lectures will set the scene, providing a succinct account of Professor Takamiya's rare book collecting career, before concentrating on books owned by two distinguished sixteenth-century collectors: Laurence Nowell, the earliest known owner of the Beowolf manuscript, and Thomas Cranmer, Archbishop of Canterbury, a controversial figure in Tudor politics.
