The second in this series of Sandars Lectures will focus primarily on John Dee's annotated copy of John Hardyng's Chronicle, printed by Richard Grafton in 1543. It will examine the interaction of this most learned of owners with a fascinating and politically charged text, but also place book and owner in the wider context of Queen Elizabeth's scheme for the British Empire.
