George Edward Dobson was born in Edgeworthstown, Longford on 4th September 1844. He was the son of Parke Dobson, M.D. of Killinagh, Westmeath. He was educated at the Royal School, Enniskillen and Trinity College, Dublin (B.A. 1866, M.B. and M.Ch 1867, M.A. 1875, Member of Senate 1875-95). In 1868 he was an Assistant Surgeon in the British Army. In March 1873 he was a Surgeon and in March 1888 a Surgeon Lieutenant Colonel. He retired in April 1888. He served in the Zulu War 1879 and was sometime in charge of the museum at the Royal Victoria Hospital, Netley. He died on 26th November 1895 (Boase 1912, p.120).
