W.G. Stretton is listed in 'Thacker's Bengal Almanacs' from 1875-85. His photographic studio is listed as: 5 Chowringhee Road 1875; 4 1/2 Esplanade East 1876-77; 7 Dacres Lane 1878-80. In the 1879 and 1880 almanacs Stretton announces himself as an 'outdoor group and marine photographer'. From 1881-1885 Stretton is not listed as a photographer but as manager of the 'Calcutta Landing and Shipping Company'. His wife, 'Madame Stretton', advertised as a pianist 1879-90.
Stretton's prints are generally signed and numbered on the negative in a distinctive hand.
