Content submission
Step by step guide
Getting started
DSpace@Cambridge content is organized around Communities (these can be organisational entities such as schools, departments, institutions etc.) and Collections. Each community can decide how the submission process should be organised, for instance, who contributes content, who will have access, whether there will be a review process of submitted items, who will manage it etc.
New communities and collections are created by the DSpace@Cambridge support team, please email us. The request should contain the following information:
- Name of the Department in question
- Name and email details of an assigned DSpace@Cambridge coordinator
- A description of which types of content the community will contain
Each community and collection have their own entry page displaying information, news and links reflecting the interests of that community or collection. The Department will also be able to “pull” the deposited material from the repository to make it viewable from its own web site. This is done by utilising the web services interface based on SOAP.
Possible workflow scenarios:
- Professor Smith deposits material to his collection. He is the only depositor and manages the deposits in his myDSpace. He uploads material when he sees fit.
- An administrator deposits on behalf of one academic member of staff. He has deposit rights and manages the deposits. The author has access/viewing rights to follow progress. The administrator ensures that the author of documents is aware of the licence agreement that he agrees to on his/her behalf and uploads material.
- A designated member of staff oversees the deposit of various members of a department. All members have deposit rights to the collection/s and manage their deposits. The designated "administrator" reviews the material and uploads it. The administrator has the ability to accept/reject submissions.
