Sonia is the Hispanic Specialist at Cambridge University Library. She is responsible for the Latin American & Iberian collections. She has collaborated in various projects, including the AHRC project 'Wrongdoing in Spain, 1800–1936: Realities, Representations, Reactions' (2011-2014) as project cataloguer, and the Cambridge Digital Humanities project 'Spanish Chapbooks 1700-1900 in CUDL: dating ephemeral literature' (October 2021-October 2022) as a chapbooks expert. She is a member of the Mapping Pliegos project scientific committee (2014-) and a member of the Quality Control/Review team of LACLI (Latin American, Caribbean, U.S. Latinx, and Iberian Online Free E-Resources) (2020-).

Sonia’s research interests are in popular literature and printing activity in Spain during the 19th and early 20th centuries.

Associated research projects

A collaborative project to produce an online resource for the study of Spanish chapbooks for researchers. Founding partners include the Biblioteca Tomás Navarro Tomás (Madrid, Spain), the Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (Madrid, Spain), the Universidad Católica de Valencia (Valencia, Spain), and the University of Cambridge (Cambridge University Library).

Wrongdoing in Spain, 1800-1936: Realities, Representations, Reactions

Funded by AHRC, the project aims to explore society’s understanding of wrongdoing and its impact on culture, using Spain in the period 1800-1936 as an example.

Spanish Chapbooks 1700-1900 in CUDL: dating ephemeral literature

Funded by Cambridge Digital Humanities, this project dated Cambridge University Library's rich collection of Spanish Chapbooks and developed key image recognition and visual search software for the collection.
