Vacation borrowing and access

The UL offers vacation borrowing over the Christmas and Easter vacations. We do not offer an extended loan period during the long summer vacation, but all current undergraduates may borrow for the normal two week period throughout the long vacation.

Readers who normally borrow for eight weeks will see no change in their borrowing allowances. Please be aware that Library regulations state that UL books cannot be taken out of the British Isles.

ACCESS TO OTHER LIBRARIES DURING VACATIONS

Cambridge University Library participates in the SCONUL Vacation Access scheme. (Society of College, National and University Libraries)

Undergraduate students and postgraduate students following taught courses at the University of Cambridge will normally be granted reference use of other higher education libraries free of charge during the vacations of the host institution. If you request admittance to another library you should be prepared to present proof of your current membership of Cambridge University (normally your University card). A SCONUL form signed by a representative of Cambridge University Library is NOT required.

The scheme does not provide for borrowing, nor for access to electronic sources of information.

You are strongly advised to check the web page of the library you wish to access, or telephone in advance of your visit, in order to be sure about vacation dates, opening hours, and documentation required.

Further information, including a list of SCONUL's members, can be found here: http://www.sconul.ac.uk/using_other_libraries/vacation.html
