We are delighted to announce that Ben Outhwaite, Head of the Genizah Research Unit since 2006, has today become Professor Outhwaite – Professor of Genizah Studies. The appointment was announced in the Cambridge University Reporter of 31 July 2024, and comes into effect today, on the 1st October 2024. The appointment recognises Ben's 25 years of scholarship and teaching at Cambridge University Library and in the Faculty of Asian and Middle Eastern Studies, in the fields of Medieval Hebrew, the Hebrew Bible in the Middle Ages, and the documentary history of the Jewish communities in Islamic lands through the Cairo Genizah manuscripts, and for his leadership of the Genizah Research Unit. The honour comes as the Unit celebrates its 50th anniversary. Congratulations Ben!
