Cambridge University Library

A chance to explore one of the region’s most iconic buildings after hours is up for grabs when Cambridge University Library hosts the latest of its popular Library Late events on Thursday 18 June.

The fun-packed evening, filled with games, creative activities, fascinating readings and performances — along with a pop-up bar and a DJ — is themed around poetry, writing, and our relationship with water. It’s all inspired by the Library’s current public exhibition Living Water: Poetry, Art and the Fight for Clean Rivers

While, of course, a major draw is the opportunity for a late-night exploration of a landmarkCambridge University building, visitors to previous events have been impressed by the range of activities on offer. This time, the evening is curated in collaboration with local artists and poets, and includes collage making, board games, poetry writing and a film screening.

Along with an array of thoughtfully designed activities, all enjoyed with a drink from the bar, visitors will also be able to experience the Living Water exhibition. The never-before-exhibited treasures on display include unpublished letters, poems, and art from leading writers including Seamus Heaney, allof which revolve around the nature of friendship, creativity and environmentalism.

“We’re so pleased to offer the opportunity to experience the library after hours,” says Francesca Harper, Events & Public Programming Co-ordinator at Cambridge University Library. “If you’re feeling competitive, we’ve got a board-games station. For those in a creative mood, you can try your hand at collaging and writing poetry. Or you can just sit back and enjoy a drink while listening to our DJ. Library Late events have a very relaxed feel to them, a special atmosphere – it’s a real night to remember!”
