Cambridge University Press and University of Cambridge Libraries and Archives unite behind NIH call for review of measuring and rewarding scientific impact.
In June 2026 the US National Institutes of Health (NIH) announced a call for responses on how to better align research incentives with the values of modern science, including collaboration, transparency and rigorous replication, noting that ‘current metrics of scientific success rely heavily on individual-level indicators of productivity, such as publication counts and citation metrics.’
In a joint response, Cambridge University Press and University of Cambridge Libraries and Archives strongly support NIH's effort to realign these incentives.
