Need some academic writing help?

Whether you’re having an essay crisis, your PhD chapter isn’t quite working for you, or you’d like someone to cast an eye over part of your latest book, the UL’s Royal Literary Fund Fellow is here to help.

Kaddy Benyon, whose writing career primarily encompasses poetry and script writing for TV, is joining the University Library as Royal Literary Fund Fellow for a period of two years. The Fellow is available to all current university students and staff, whatever their subject or level of study. She offers free, personalised and individual advice on any aspect academic writing in a confidential and friendly environment. So, if you need help on structuring an argument, improving the clarity of an essay or your overall style, don't hesitate to get in touch to book a session.

This is the second time the University Library has hosted an RLF Fellow, with undergraduates, postgraduates and PhD students and research staff all benefitting from the service last year. Users have particularly praised the sessions for helping them to clarify their argument and giving them a chance to practice explaining their ideas in simple prose.

One PhD student said they “can’t believe all PhD students don’t use this service” and another said they would “go back and tell my department that everyone needs to come to this.”

Kaddy is available for meetings in person at the UL or online from the 12th of October 2025. To book an appointment, email kaddy.benyon@rlfeducation.org.uk.
