Works of art, a means of propaganda, reflections of power and status, or tools for navigation; maps are powerful objects. They offer the unique chance to follow the footsteps of those who lived centuries ago and help us visualise the past. Cambridge University Library's Map Department holds over 1.3 million maps, and more than 40,000 atlases and books on cartography.

Join Anne Taylor, Head of the Map Department, for a visit to the Map Room to look at some highlights from our collections. Followed by tea and coffee.

This event is hosted by Friends of Cambridge University Library. Friends fund some of the most crucial activities in the library - securing new acquisitions, conserving and digitising our collections, and supporting our public programmes. Find out more and join here.
