Black British Voices: Black British Collections
Join a community panel to shape Cambridge University Library's 2027 public exhibition and programme
Do you have an interest in Black British history?
Are you curious about discovering obscured histories and unheard stories from within one of the oldest collections in the world?
Would you be keen to co-curate an exhibition and events with a community from across the UK?
The project team for Black British Voices: Black British Collections at Cambridge University Library is looking for Black-British and Black-Northern Irish identifying individuals to form a community panel.
Together with the University Library, this panel will develop and direct an exhibition and events programme to take place in 2027.
By connecting historical records with contemporary experiences, the Black British Voices: Black British Collections project will use Cambridge University Library’s extensive collections to explore and empower Black British communities to tell their stories, fostering a nuanced understanding of Black British identities.
The project is anchored by the findings of the Black British Voices Report (2023), the largest study to date on the opinions and attitudes of black people in Britain.
As a community panel member, you will receive:
- an honorarium of £2500
- membership of Cambridge University Library
- opportunities to visit the collections at the Library for in-person workshops
- access to the Community Panel curatorial forum online
Applicants must be aged 18+ (no upper age limit), Black-British identifying and reside within the British Isles. You must be available between January and September 2026, and able to commit up to five hours per month, including approximately one meeting per month. No prior specialist knowledge or expertise is required to apply.
Deadline for Applications: Sunday 14th December 2025
