1. the orginal name of the river Cam, from which Grantabridge, subsequently Cambridge, took its name, with a subseuqent back-formation whereby the river became the Cam; 2. a local name for the stretch of the river Cam that runs from Grantchester to the mill race; 3. a very successful undergraduate magazine that appeared from 1889 to 1966, subsequently devolving into an altogether more serious, if less frequent, publication; 4. a project of the University to lay communications ducts and fibre optic cables between all Colleges and Departments.
