Cambridge University Library

The procedure by which the holder of certain University or College appointments who is a graduate of the University of Dublin (Trinity College) or Oxford may receive the corresponding Cambridge degree. Until 1711 the privilege was extended to graduates of other universities, Europe-wide. There is no recorded decision after that date limiting the privilege to Oxford and Dublin graduates, and the printed statutes of 1785, citing a formula from a Vice-Chancellor’s book of c. 1674, implies a wider eligibility, but 1711 saw the last incorporation not from Oxford or Dublin. (It was from Glasgow.)
