Junior Combination Room (not ‘common room’ at Cambridge): with the Amalgamated Clubs the centre of social life amongst each College’s undergraduate community, providing various social facilities, including, usually, television, games machines, a licensed bar, newspapers, etc., and run by an elected committee. In most Colleges there is also a Middle Combination Room (MCR) for graduate students. Sometimes, by transference, used of the undergraduates themselves, and often of the JCR committee. See also SCR.
