(1) the Cambridge University Union Society, a debating Society, founded in 1815, closed down from 1817 to 1821 as an unnecessary precaution against political radicalism, and still surviving today, with somewhat diminished premises in Round Church Street; (2) the Cambridge University Students’ Union, the equivalent in many ways of the students’ union in other universities, occupying part of the premises of of the Union Society; (3) a college union.
