The Chancellor’s deputy, from the late fifteenth-century until 1989 elected annually, usually for two years in succession, and usually a head of house. In some senses, now the chief executive officer of the University, he or she is supported by a number of Deputy Vice-Chancellors, appointed annually, usually from amongst the Heads of Houses; and by (at present) five Pro-Vice-Chancellors, each with defined reponsibilities. For a list of Vice-Chancellors go to http://venn.lib.cam.ac.uk/Documents/acad/lists/index.html. For current information on this office see How the University and Colleges work.
