Cambridge University Library

If you would like to use our Browse and Borrow service and need to renew your library card, please see here

If you would like to consult material in Special Collections and have an existing library card that has expired:

  • Complete the book a visit form for Special Collections. Tick the "My card has expired" box.
  • Staff will confirm your visit date, and when you arrive your card will be ready for collection at the Reader Services Desk in the entrance hall. You will need to show two, different forms of ID to collect your cardAcceptable forms of ID can be found here.

Due to the period of closure because of the national Lockdowns, when renewing we will extend all cards that expired from August 2019 onwards for one year, free of charge. Alumni cards will be renewed for three years as usual.

The registration office will remain closed for in-person appointments and so all cards must be renewed or applied for online. Renewals will be reserved for those wishing to physically visit the University Library and use the collections via the book a visit service. Unfortunately we are not able to renew cards for readers who don't wish to use the Library for now.
