Korea Day is coming to Cambridge! Join Cambridge University Library librarians and our special guests for an unforgettable celebration of modern and traditional Korean books and culture.

Activities

  • Korean calligraphy: An introduction to Korean Hanguel Calligraphy from Tae Young Lee and Kilchan Lee, with the opportunity to create a piece of artwork to take home.
  • Embroidery: Korean embroidery is a traditional handicraft. Enjoy this demonstration of the artform with embroidery artist, Heehwa Jo.
  • Pop-up display: Find out about our Korean collections at the University Library with this pop-up display curated by our Korean collection librarians.
  • VR experience: A unique opportunity to experience Korea cultural heritage through art graphic forms.

Plus special talks: Hear a warm welcome and a short talk on Korean Aesthetics from Dr Seunghye Sun, Director of the Korean Culture Centre UK. Followed by a talk from author Juhea Kim, author of Beasts of a Little Land and City of Night Birds.

How to book and important information:

  • Booking is essential. Space is limited therefore please only book if you can definitely attend, and let us know as soon as possible if plans change and you need to cancel.
  • Please book your tickets for the morning (10am to 1.30pm) or afternoon (12pm to 3.30pm) session. Each session is inclusive of all the activities.
  • Sessions are not drop-in; you must arrive for the advertised start time.
  • Those attending the morning session will take part in activities between 10am and 12pm and afternoon session attendees will take part in activities between 1.30pm and 3.30pm. Attendees of both sessions will enjoy the talks between 12pm and 1.30pm.
  • This event is suitable for adults and children aged 14 and over. Unfortunately this event is not open to under 14s. Under 18s must be accompanied by an adult.
  • The event will be held in English.
  • Please be advised that filming and photography may be taking place during this event.
  • Please note that we are unable to provide any food or drink at this event. However, drinks and light refreshments may be purchased from our onsite tea-room open 9am to 2pm on Saturdays. Please plan refreshments around your session.
