Introduction to Poetry Writing
Discover your creative voice through this poetry writing masterclass, inspired by Cambridge University Library and Pembroke College’s exhibition, Living Water: Poetry, Art and the Fight for Clean Rivers.
Aimed at beginners, this short, fun introductory workshop led by tutor Yvonne Battle-Felton, is ideal for those wanting to take their first step into poetry. With prompts provided, you will be given guidance in crafting a poem inspired by the Spring Summer season and the natural world. Participants are invited back for our Library Late (Thursday 18 June) where you have the opportunity to read your poem in front of a live audience.
Yvonne Battle-Felton is an author, academic, host, creative producer and writer. Her debut novel Remembered was longlisted for the Women’s Prize for Fiction (2019) and shortlisted for the Jhalak Prize (2020). Yvonne has a PhD in Creative Writing from Lancaster University and is the Academic Director for Creative Writing at the University of Cambridge Professional and Continuing Education.
Walking tour opportunity
To provide you with inspiration for your writing, we have teamed up with Water Sensitive Cambridge to offer participants a FREE space on a Deep Time Walk. Explore the watery landscapes of Cambridge and 4.6 billion years of Earth’s history on a 4.6 kilometres (2.85 miles) walk. The walk will take place on Sunday 31 May from 11am-3pm with a break for lunch (bring your own, or purchase at a cafe). We will ask you to confirm your place on the tour when you book. Attending the tour is optional and not required in order to attend the workshop.
