Published seventy years ago

On 25 August 1944 a notable biography of General de Gaulle was published in great haste; this was the day the German garrison in Paris surrendered. A new post on the Modern Languages blog explains the remarkable publication of this book on a "man of destiny", which has just been added to the Library's Literature of the Liberation collection.

Sassoon's War Journals Released Online
Siegfried Sassoon’s First World War diaries – some bearing traces of mud from the Somme – are among 4,100 pages from his personal archive being made freely available online from today, almost 100 years since Britain declared war on Germany.
