Cambridge-MIT Institute. This alliance between the University of Cambridge and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) was launched in 2000 at the instigation of the Chancellor of the Exchequer, Gordon Brown, and with funds from the Department of Trade and Industry. Its purpose was to support joint educational, research and outreach projects which, by improving of the knowledge exchange process between academia and industry, would impact on the UK economy's competitiveness, productivity and entrepreneurship. Wound up in 2008.
