A Fellow of a College with responsibility either for the conduct of the college Chapel or for the maintenance of discipline, seldom for both. In recent years the term has been sparingly introduced in the sense familiar from modern British universities and from the United States of one with administrative responsibility in a given area of the university’s academical activities.
