Often abbreviated to dies diss and non diss, and dies le and non le or ‘le and non le days’. These were days in term time when certain disputations or lectures, respectively, could or could not be offered, the ‘non le’ and ‘non diss’ days often being either major saints’days, or the days on which exequies were to be performed for the University’s benefactors. Legible days were those on which the ordinary lectures were given in the schools, and disputable days were those set aside for the solemn disputations of masters.
