Cambridge University Library

A College officer who, in Cambridge, is not now concerned with the teaching of the undergraduates under his/her care, but rather with their social, moral and any other non-academical problems that may arise. In earlier years a tutor, as well as acting as the academical and moral mentor of his/her students, would have financial responsibility for them, both disbursing any funds provided by a student’s family and friends, and soliciting for more if the student ran short.
