The Greeks behind the books: the development of Cambridge Libraries’ Hellenic collections in the Early Modern Period

Cambridge University Library has one of the world’s richest and most diverse collections of manuscripts and books in Greek or relating to Greek history. The collection rapidly expanded between c.1500-1715, ranging from travelogues to grammars and from editions of Homer to Eastern Orthodox Bibles.
In this evening’s talk, Dr Anastasia Stylianou, Munby Fellow in Global Bibliography 2023-24, will explore how these texts served as points of contact between the early modern East and West, especially between British intellectuals and religious reformers and Greek communities across the Mediterranean and Middle East.
