Hosted in-person at Cambridge University Library. Directions

This event follows the lecture “Printing Politics: Global Circulations of Leftist Imagery in the Early 20th Century".

The Cambridge University Library is home to a truly unique collection of historical printing presses. At this event, Colin Clarkson will give an introduction to historical printing practices, particularly in relation to the presses housed at the Library. Participants will then set type and image to print their own material to keep.

Colin Clarkson, a classicist, retired as Head of Modern Research Collections & Curator of the Historical Printing Room at Cambridge University Library in September 2022. He has continued to work as a volunteer in the room teaching courses in letterpress printing, which he has done since 1988, and hosting visits by academics, students, members of the public, artists and other interested parties. His most recent personal project was the design and printing of his daughter’s wedding stationery.
