Much has been written on the heraldry of the University and the Colleges, most recently in The Cambridge University Heraldic and Genealogical Society: The Cambridge Armorial, edited by C. Humphery-Smith, H. E. Peek, G. H. Wright and C. W. Scott-Giles (London, 1985). Earlier sources are also still of value as: H. A. Woodham, An application of heraldry to the illustration of various university and collegiate antiquities (Publications of the Cambridge Antiquarian Society, Vol.1. Cambridge, 1846), W. H. St John Hope, ‘Armorial ensigns of the University and Colleges, and of the Regius Professors’, Proceedings of the Cambridge Antiquarian Society, VIII (1892) pp. 107 following. See also insignia.
